FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 26, 2020
GATHERING OF TREATY NATIONS AND ALL TREATY COUNCILS TO BE HELD AT THE FORT LARAMIE TREATY HISTORIC SITE
ON SEPTEMBER 4-6, 2020
Porcupine, SD – The Oceti-Sakowin Treaty Council (OSTC) of the Oglala Lakota Nation is calling for a “Gathering of All Oceti-Sakowin Oyate/Great Sioux Nation Treaty Councils.” This Gathering will be held at the Historic Fort Laramie Site in Wyoming from September 4-6, 2020. If you will be attending, there will be primitive camping available, so plan to be self-sufficient. We will be requesting and will accept any form of assistance to make this Gathering a GREAT SUCCESS!
Mr. Dave Swallow, Jr., Oglala Lakota Spiritual Leader, believes it is time for all Treaty Councils to now “Walk the Walk.” Our People need us to be united and prepared to be strong advocates for the Oyate. We do not have time on our side. A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision holds important implications for our Treaties and the OSO/GSN, as a whole.
If you represent the Oceti-Sakowin Oyate/GSN as a Treaty Council, in any manner, you are respectfully requested to be in attendance. A ceremony will be conducted to “Swear in Nacas.” Following this ceremony, these Nacas will be announced and recognized as being authorized by the Oyate to represent them in all matters related to the 1851 and 1868 Fort Laramie Treaties.
The survival of the OSO/GSN requires that all Treaty Councils be UNITED, because Federal and State agencies are working hand in hand with greedy and corrupt corporations who tirelessly seek to separate us from our Land, Water, Culture, Language and our Spirituality.
The DAPL and KXL Pipelines are perfect examples of how Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) and corrupt CEO’s like Kelsey Warren believe and act as though they are above the law. They must be shut down immediately so they do not have an opportunity to pollute our sacred and life giving Mni Sose (Missouri River and the Oglala Aquifer). Other matters, including the unresolved Black Hills issues requires that we be unified, clear in our intentions and designate a spokesman to articulate the position of OSO/GSN.I hope you are able to attend this important Gathering.
